This past December, TriMet informed US that since its contract with ATU 757 expired, it was passing the rise in insurance premiums on to us. My premium TRIPLED. So much for that raise a few years ago. Gone! Poof! We hope to regain some benefits, and at least get another raise. But what’s to stop them from doing this again in a few years?

Words that resonate with every operator that has sat in an operators seat. Unfortunately, due to our own folly, indifference, lack of attention, ineffective leadership, no cohesive strategy to ensure these words you have spoken today become the the stimulus to waken the moral consciousness of management to its Rank & File unfortunately in my opinion will become a fitting eulogy for this Union and its members. I pray for different outcome, yet the way the wind of this negotiations are blowing the flame of the candle of hope will be extinguished. I appreciate your efforts and those who like myself for years have raised our voices of concern in that we, this Union, the Rank & File would NOT find ourselves in predicament we now find ourselves suffering. I do not proclaim to be Moses, to lead us to a better working conditions for the Rank & File but have been dutiful in my own way, along with others, whose voices and suggestions have been ignored. No animosities do I hold to those that have lead us collectively to this point in time, just a sadness that it did not have to be this way. Change is needed, that is for sure on BOTH sides of negotiation table if we and the public we serve gets what the taxpayers pay for: a safe, effective transit system with the people that fairly compensated for their efforts. I feel at this moment in time I am alone in a dark closet looking for the pull string to turn on the light to illuminate where the door handle is. I am take some comfort in that I am not alone.
