Wai backtracks on Fares and Bauman says raise them!
If the Transit Agency wanted to collect fares, possibly repair or change out the existing fare boxes that barely work for coin collection. Constant coin jams occur. Most lower income folks use some amount of coins if not all. Unless you want a coin jam, well there it is..... seems odd to me all this discussion about fares. In a year and a half, only 2 fare inspectors boarded one of my buses and there was nothing done about the fare evaders on the bus. Training department taught us to be polite and not worry about the fares so that's what I've done. It's really interesting they continue to talk about fares. Maybe the increases are targeted at people who purchase fare on a fare instrument like a HOP card or their phone.
