Trimet capital projects marches on

I find it odd indeed that Trimet has completely failed to deliver adequate service now to the corridor and as a matter of fact has made transit worse and worse over there as the years have gone by yet somehow they will be in charge of improving it. Of course that means another capital project for them doesn't it?

Union's Response to TriMet's Strategic Financial Plan

Today, the Amalgamated Transit Union hand delivered its response to the TriMet Strategic Financial Plan (SFP) that was recently released by the agency. The Union noted in its letter that, despite the fact its members total 87% of the TriMet workforce, the Union was neither informed of the planning process nor invited to participate. After addressing some issues of concern about the SFP, the Union offered to participate in a collaborative approach to address the issue of unfunded retiree benefits. “We’re hoping the Board takes us up on our sincere offer to work as a team to discover the best and fairest SFP approach to what has been a long term and complete failure to fund retiree benefits,” said Union president, Bruce Hansen.

Trimet continues to misuse the word 'frequent'

"Frequent service" is not every 15 minutes. It's every 8 minutes or less. However, this being Portlandia words are always used to fool people into thinking something they are not. Anyway some lines are getting '15 minute service' which is better than '20 minute service' for sure. Mr Wonderful slings his usual bullshit

Lines 4 and 72 already offer 15-minute "midday" frequent service. In March, riders on 10 other lines will get the same service: 6-Martin Luther King Jr Blvd; 8-Jackson Park/NE 15th; 9-Powell/Broadway; 12-Barbur/Sandy Blvd; 14-Hawthorne; 15-Belmont/NW 23rd; 33-McLoughlin; 54-Beaverton/Hillsdale Hwy/56-Scholls Ferry Rd.; 57-TV Hwy/Forest Grove; 75-Cesar Chavez/Lombard.

Trimet's dirty litle secret

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I am writing this with a preface of hoping that I am wrong, but I have checked with a number of members on the Company’s “dirty little secret,” theft of money from bus operators.  In the first installment of HOS part one; the question was concerning the money lost from the “log-in and the log-out” not being recorded for operators to get the correct pay that you are owed, regardless of a time-slip or not.

OREGON HELD AS THE EXAMPLE OF HOW MANAGEMENT CAN BREAK UNIONS

This is an interesting article since Mass Transit magazine is basically for transit management. They hold up Trimet as the example of how to to the no strike thing. What they have failed to point out is that Trimet has a very passive employee base. Virtually no real activism goes on there, no real solidarity  and the union is fairly weak. A 'winner take all' approach is devastating to the labor movement. Personally I think the union destroyed itself when it signed on to this bull shit.
Since the union workers essentially get no say in their contract, why shouldn't it be a 'right to work' union membership which means join if you want and don't join if you don't want.

In Oregon, where strikes by transit workers have been banned since 1995, there has generally been labor peace, said Henry Drummonds, a law professor at Lewis and Clark University in Portland. He helped install the system.

If contract talks don't work, Drummonds said, the two sides go to an arbitrator, who picks one proposal or the other — winner take all.

Reading the Trimet statistical reports

Make Him Learn

The common theme right now is Lane Jensen's telephonic mishap. Again, there are about 7.1 billion people in the world, and all of them would agree that he shouldn't have done what he did. But there is a lot of debate as to what the consequences should be. Here I offer my take.

Transit Rider PDX: Make Him Learn

Chicago's Electronic Fare System debacle

And this is what TriMet wants - instead of a TESTED, PROVEN system like Orca Card that is a simple electronic fare system that has over 99.9% reliability over ten years:

IT'S OFFICIAL-RIDERS ABANDONING TRIMET

Trimet officials have been trying to convince us every single month for the last year that the decrease in ridership was due to the loss of fareless square.

Well we now have the first month to month comparison after the fareless square was eliminated and guess what, Trimet is still losing riders.

No more lame excuses Trimet officials. You've treated people badly, cut the heck out of the bus service, and people don't really want to ride your system. It's official now. Transit ridership is up to record levels around north America, but Trimet its the opposite

I got an idea for you guys, how about  a couple more deputy general managers to study the problem, that will fix it right?

On a positive note, WES served 300 more people this September than last September. Hahaha! (sorry didn't mean to laugh)

WHEN YOUR BUS SERVICE SUCKS YOUR DRIVERS GET ATTACKED

MORE DOWNTIME FOR TRIMET'S BRILLIANT INVENTION

Because ORCA and/or Clipper Cards make too much sense and don't cost enough money!
