Running for ATU757 Treasurer

The names with the faces

Safety is definitely not a value when it comes to wheelchairs on Trimet buses

Trimet could provide fast and easy solutions to  the securement problem-click the pic
Reliable sources tell me that there has been a rash of wheelchair accidents involving wheelchair riders who 'refuse securement'.

Trimet is one of the very few transit districts that allow wheelchair riders to ride in a standard transit bus without using internal mechanisms to prevent the chairs from tipping or moving during the operation of a transit bus. Trimet lift on the other hand, which is also part of Trimet, doesn't allow wheelchair riders to ride without securement. So we have one agency (Trimet) with two totally conflicting policies.

Chris Day statement of candidacy

Today Monday, May 11th, 2015 I have officially became a candidate for ATU757 Vice President. These next 42 days will be a very interest time for me. I will be happy when June 23, 2015 is finally here and the vote count is done. It is my goal during this election campaigning time to not put focus on negative aspects of other candidates. My campaign is to present to our members what makes me a good candidate as Vice President.

Mainstream media Joe Rose

Joe Rose getting ready to enter  government as one of the thousands of overpaid tax payer funded public relations hacks?

Gawd will this ever end?

This endless propaganda trying to convince the public how wonderful the stupid $1.5 billion bridge is. Yes its 'your bridge'. Ya right, sure it is. 'Rembrandt of Bridge design". Get me a barf bag.
This is how unique it is: CLICK

Election Committee Back Ground Checks

I had asked the election committee if they do background checks on all the candidates to assure that all candidates are eligible to be an officer. This is a valid question because our bylaw Section 13 states “The eligibility and qualifications of officers and delegates shall be in compliance with the Constitution and General Laws.” Looking at the Constitution and General Laws Section 14.3 it states “No member who is disqualified from holding office under the provisions of Section 504 of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 shall be eligible for holding office in this union.” I then looked up Section 504 of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 and there is a list of convictions that would disqualify a candidate. The election committee informed me that they do not have the resources to be able to do that. This means that they only verify if the candidate is a member in good standing and has been a member for two or more years. This is another example of how our union is failing to observe our bylaws and not assuring that our members are fully protected.

Trimet actually takes responsibility for its broken ticket machines?

Trimet uses Gestapo techniques for fare inspection
This is a first. A Trimet controller actually informing a Trimet supervisor that they will not be undertaking the Gestapo like fare inspections while the system is malfunctioning. In the past they have put 100% of the responsibility for fares on its riders so I view this a a 'breakthrough'!
A possible enlightenment of an otherwise selfish and uncaring institution that usually considers its riders fair prey for its fare Nazi's under all  circumstances!

Dr Bethel questions Trimet crony contractors

Every once in a while this guy surprises me. Of course its all for nothing because in the end Trimet executives get what they want. I wonder if its a ruse actually to make it appear that there is 'dissent' on the board

Trimet's forthcoming electronic fare system will be unusable for some riders

Actually that is not true, as usual

Trimet knows how to play the public

When it comes to manufacturing consent Trimet is one of the masters.
Why would anyone actually be 'excited' about a new light rail line?
The former 33 riders now have to transfer to get into downtown so they have no reason to celebrate.
I suppose the bicyclists view this bridge as some sort of 'victory' although all the other bridges allow bicyclists.
Hikers might enjoy the view but is it really that much different than any of the other bridges in town?
Of course Trimet union employees should be upset because this new light rail line has been one of the reasons that they lost their health benefit package.
Its a new light rail line, big deal.
More government owned infrastructure, expansion of government power.
More bully boy cops to harass riders, unfair citations, constant delays.
Why would anybody give a damn about it at all?
The only  people celebrating should be the ones  that made fortunes off the $1.5 billion dollar project and the Trimet executives who packed their paychecks by skimming the 'administrative costs' off the top

Trimet bus operator John Hively quoted in Common Dreams

John Hively, a Portland bus driver for and member of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 757, told The Oregonian that Fast Track legislation is "just a scam to ram through the TPP." He added, "We only know a few things [about TPP] because most of it is top-secret."
