CUT YOUR SERVICE-RAISE YOUR FARE-REDUCE YOUR HEALTH COVERAGE
Actually, although it is not directly related to service delivery (and therefore, if I had my way, it would be an eliminated position) it does play a useful support role. As much as it might disappoint or surprise us, Information Technology is very much intertwined with good service delivery, including the website, transit tracker, and the technology that supports the buses on the road (i.e. CAD/AVL, SCADA, etc.). IT Networks now also support all voice communications (no 238-RIDE, no calls to Dispatch, etc. if it fails), so it makes a little bit of sense to fill this position. The annual salary is not too far out of line with other agencies of TriMet's size.
Again, I agree with "why are we doing this when we are in a budget crunch?" but I understand the necessity.
