Long Term Disability coverage provides wage replacement to individuals who are unable to work due to disability, either injury or illness, for an extended period of time. Basic provisions of the policy are:
- There is a 90 day waiting period. This means if you become disabled and are unable to work on March 1st, payments will not begin until June 1st.
- It provides income up to 60% of the first $16,667 of the employee's pre-disability earnings, reduced by deductible income, such as Social Security, up to a maximum of $10,000 per month.
- Benefits continue until you are no longer disabled, your maximum benefit period ends, you die, benefits become payable under another long-term disability policy or the date you retire.
- The benefits are subject to all of the terms and conditions of the group policy. Please consult the policy for more detailed information about this benefit, including definition of disability, explanation of the 90-day waiting period, deductible income, pre-existing condition waiting period, and policy exclusions to the benefit.
