As we know Trimet intentionally did not fund the union retirement account. We now know that this was a preplanned event and we see how Mcfarlane and his hired cronies attempt to turn transit workers into the 'enemy' of the public with his never ending 'richest benefits in America' bullshit.
The management has announced to the world that they will deal with this unfunded liability by getting rid of the benefits, truly despicable management strategy.
Look at the CTA's retirement planning, a much bigger transit district, a fully funded pension for it's employees.
Since 2009, CTA retiree health costs have been paid through the Chicago
Transit Authority Retiree Health Care Plan. The trust, created pursuant
to a law that separated the funding for retiree health benefits and
pension benefits, was 107 percent funded as of Jan. 1, 2012, with total
income and assets of $733.7 million and projected benefits of $685.7
million.
