REQUEST MADE TO HAYDEN TALBOT FOR CLARIFICTION OF POLICY

Hello Hayden;
I would like a policy clarification please.

It had been the policy of this agency to allow movement of the bus as soon as passengers had “moved safely behind the yellow line”. (With exceptions)

I’m sure you are aware that many people take quite a long time to actually take their seats and some people choose to go way to the back of the bus in a nonchalant style that can actually take quite a long time.

Is the policy now that the bus cannot be moved until passengers “are safely seated”?

If there is a fall before a passenger is seated is that an automatic PA?

If yes to the above what about people that refuse to sit or overloaded buses?

This needs to be clearly defined to us as operators.

Thank you,

Al Margulies

Our policy says to wait for people to be seated, unless they start passing empty seats, then we may take off with care.

I once had an line 12 Operator that followed that policy to a T.

Guaranteed, from King City to PSU, we'd be ten minutes late, every run. Guaranteed. Yes, I looked at the VCH and compared with Transit Tracker.

I was so happy when we had an extra board driver except that we'd have to hold for time at every single timepoint.

But from a safety standpoint, I think it's a judgement call. If you have someone who's elderly or disabled or has children, then wait. Otherwise go. They should know it's a bus, it moves, and if you're standing, you're responsible for your actions. If every Operator waited for every passenger to sit, the system would grind to a halt.
