I wonder how much revenue is lost on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis just by maintenance issues that prevent fare collection.
A single fare box on a bus for eight hours a day might see 30 boarding rides a day, or 240 fares...if 50% of them (since the other half are pass riders) are paying an average fare of $1.75 that's $210 or enough money to cover the operating expenses of that bus for two hours.
One broken farebox a day equals $76,650 in lost revenue. Or the cost of one employee.
