I have always and continue to be against binding arbitration which renders union members powerless over their own fates. BART and AC TRANSIT, both transit districts with employees who are not afraid of confronting their management show the true story of unionism.
If you have to go down, at least go down with a fight, not at the hands of a government appointed 'technocrat' which is what we here at Trimet got, without our asking for it by the way. Our beloved union leaders made that decision for us, a decision to this very day that makes me question our union leadership and its dedication to its work force.
Teachers, hospital doctors and court officials, among others,
participated in the walkout, leaving schools, courts and government
offices closed across the country and hospitals operating on skeleton
staff. On the streets of Athens, public sector unionists staged two
separate demonstrations that brought about 10,000 protesters to the
streets, according to police estimates.

Cornered by reporters during a press conference Monday, Governor
Jerry Brown commented on the stalemate that's the sum and substance of
the long dragged out BART negotiations.
“I've exercised my power
and that was the cooling off period, it's now within the framework of
collective bargaining, which says that both sides talk to each other.
But if they don't agree, it says that workers can go on strike,” said
Brown. "Neither management nor the unions have shown any appetite for
binding arbitration. I do not want to see a strike. I urge the parties
to get real." When asked about Brown’s reluctance to once again jump
into the negotiations when the cooling off period ends in 23 days, Hock
said he agreed with the governor.
