AIN'T GONNA WORK!
Probably you have heard of Mcfarlans big plan to short line Red line trains at Terminus turnaround @11th and Morrison. Good luck Neil, 3A switch is out of service again due to band aid fixes falling apart again. Better tear up the streets and fix it right first. Track substructure there is totally beyond worn out.

Wouldn't it be great to have leadership at Tri-Met who actually understood the proper operation of a transit system, rather than being obsessed with destroying it?
11th ave and Morrison , bad choice to turn redlines, the switch layouts here are in terrible shape. Good spot for another derailment.
That is actually one cut I strongly disagree with. Beaverton is a major MAX destination, and it's perfectly set up as a terminus.
If TriMet really wants to shortline the Red Line - just make it a shuttle from Gateway to the Airport - one train in operation, just run it back and forth. The transfer between a Blue/Green Line train and a Red Line train would be painless - it's a cross-platform transfer. TriMet could even time the Red Line so that the Red Line train would leave three minutes after an eastbound Blue Line train departs.
But if TriMet is going to run the train west - Beaverton is THE logical point. Not 11th Avenue. Not Merlo. Not Elmonica. Not Willow Creek.
TriMet would be better off just reducing the headways of all trains to 20 minutes or less. That would protect 10 minute headway service from the Steel Bridge to Beaverton, 7 minute service from Rose Quarter to Gateway, and 10 minute service on the Mall.
