TRIMET LIFT ON STRIKE! MCFARLANE GETS WHAT HE WANTS FOR ALL OF TRIMET

“The general manager of TriMet can stop all of this,” Hunt said in a phone interview from a picket line in front of the agency's Southeast Portland headquarters. “But he has decided to withhold service from the most vulnerable rather than going to arbitration to deal with these issues.”

Because of this strike the drivers left people with disabilities without a way to get to work. The people who are paid to support these people with disabilties were sent home, often without pay, if they had no people at their worksite to support. Agencies providing employmetn services to the people with disabilities who could notge to work lost thousands of dollars today. However, the monthly and annual tri met lift paases cost the same amt regardless of how many times an individual rides. the only people these strikers hurt were the "vulnerable people" for which they claim to care so much about and the people who make significantly less than the drivers by caring for them.

I understand that but the enemy is Mcfarlane who tries to shove the whole deal away from himself.

This is what he has wanted, so go thank Mcfarlane.

I don't dispute that. However, the best way to keep the working and middle class from fighting with the upper class is to keep them fighting amongst themselves. The strikers effectively told a whole group of people, that by a lot of standards are worse off than them, today that the strikers needs are more valuable. I am certain that was not their intent, or even their thoughts. Instead of organizing with a group of vulnerable, and margionalized, folks, the strikers organized in a way that harmed them. It is just really important to remember that "the man" is a bigger entity than what we can fight alone, and when we make enemies of our peers, we are in essesnce fighting with "the man".

Next time..........organize with a group of folks that could bring some of the folks to work and such for free or a lower cost, then trimet also loses and the strikers are the heros.............or some other such thing

I appreciate the strikers points, my frusteration is not that for which they stand.....but that they stood against folks that needed their support too

That's not a bad idea, getting people to where they need to go by volunteers while strike is on.

I personally don't support transit strikes because they hurt the wrong people.

I support acts of civil disobedience as in making Mcfarlanes life miserable as he tries to get his job done at any and all public events.

I agree with you. Disrupting the lives and efforts of those that are causing the harm makes more sense.

I do hope that things work out in the favor of the lift drivers.
