The old girl is a hundred years old. Very little has been done over the years to upgrade and keep it in top shape. Daily pounding from traffic and trains takes it's toll. Portland can expect more problems in the future.

As a Signal Maintainer at Trimet Light Rail Maintenance we are tasked as a small part of our job duties with Trimets part of maintaing the Steel Bridge. The bridge being old while being an issue is not so much a problem as a recent staffing decision by Trimet Light Rail Maintenane of Way management to reduce personel in our dept. during the service day by 60%. This extremely poor move has resulted in where problems of this nature used to get an immediate response no longer do due to lack of available staff in this safety critical area. Management will tell you it is a cost saving measure, Most of the technicians I work with will tell you it is at the expense of safety and efficent response to trouble calls.
