This latest death by MAX train was most certainly preventable given the facts that are coming out.
Apparently this woman walked right in front of the train even though it was clearly visible if she had looked! Seems almost incredible that someone would walk right across the track and not see a train coming at them.
The Transit Police Division is continuing to investigate the circumstance of this morning's incident where a MAX train struck a woman at Northeast 7th Avenue and Holladay Street.
The 62-year-old woman hit by the train was transported to a Portland hospital where she later died from her injuries. Investigators believe the woman was walking eastbound on the North sidewalk and stepped into a crosswalk directly into the path of a westbound MAX train that was pulling into the station. Investigators have reviewed surveillance video and it appears that the woman did not hear the train coming, possibly due to heavy construction going on at a site North of the platform.
