First came word last weekend that the Washington State Senate had called Gov. Jay Inslee’s bluff and rejected a House-backed transportation package that would have authorized funding for a new toll bridge over the Columbia River along Interstate 5 — but only if the span also extended light rail service 2.9 miles from Portland into Vancouver.
Then on Tuesday, the Oregon Senate voted to require a performance audit of TriMet, the regional government agency that oversees public transit in the Portland metro area.
