One of the most moving speeches at the last board meeting was from Trimet retiree Jim Fowler.
I didn't know Mr Fowler during my employment at Trimet but his speech really hit home with me on an emotional level.
There was a very interesting comment on the post where he makes his speech.
Something to the effect of 'Jim Fowler was not a ranting trimet bus driver'. Now I didn't take that comment as an insult to me because I watched his speech in its entirety and was very moved.
Mr Fowler worked all over Trimet during his 38 year career and he was obviously a king pin in making Trimet into a working transit system. Mcfarlanes and Hansen's come and go but without the Fowlers there is no transit system.
And now Trimet has kicked him (and all of us) in the teeth.
I do not understand why Trimet executives are so intent on destroying their current retirees.
The fact that this group of executives, enabled by the Trimet board and the governor of Oregon are not grandfathering the current retirees into the contract as decided by GABA says it all about this current crop of executives.
They are heartless, brutal, greedy (as they kick us in the teeth they are securing raises for themselves) and deserve no respect from any union member. No union member should give MCFARLANE, LOMAX or STEADMAN the time of day. Those people are your sworn enemy and they are working hard to destroy the lives of the people that made Trimet into Trimet
