It's really something that a couple of hobbyists that are generally scorned continually are able to provide the public more accurate information than the billion dollar agency that employs dozens of six figure executives.
Took the 6 figure executives almost an hour longer to get the information out, how embarrassing for them

(1) It is important to remember that, as a company, you want to not tell people the details until you know that they are the facts. This is why you usually wait to tell release details (i.e. why did the wheels fall off the MAX train>)
but
(2) It's not that hard to say, "There is a minor issue on the Yellow Line. We are working to resolve it. Stay tuned for more details about cause and delays." If the car is sitting on the tracks, there's likely to be a delay.
There is no excuse Patrick, to delay shows how little regard they have for their riders.
They don't want to say anything unless they have to because they know it makes them look bad and its all about image to these people.
Reality means nothing to them
So..let's do a service alert THE INSTANT something is discovered but then on those occaisions where it took15 mminutes or less to fix it...OOPS folks! Never mind!
Patrick is SPOT ON on both comments. You don't just jump in and send an alert before all of the facts come in. You can however, notify people that there is a car in the tracks at so and so location and to expect delays...
Well whatever but in this case there was no alert of any sort from the billion-dollar agency
I agree with Al (& Patrick) - they should put out alerts immediately and then clarify as more information is available.
People simply want to know: Am I waiting for a bus/train that isn't coming? It's frustrating that TriMet often knows the answer to that question, yet fails to communicate the message in a time efficient manner.
Here's what they should've done "The car is obstructing the northbound yellow line tracks it is unknown how much of a delay this will create"
Easy but they don't even do that.
Agreed. Even that should be easy enough to be put out in between martinis and cigars...
If the bloggers hadn't blogged about it Trimet probably never would have said a thing. That's my bet.
