How does a man who hides for himself and his six figured pals raises during a 'budget crisis' get to keep his job? In any other city this would have been a major scandal that would have undoubtedly lead to the departure of the person in charge and dissolution of the board of directors that were complicit in this.
But not here in Portland. In Portland we have a regime that has controlled all the levers of government for years and years. They have cloaked their corruption in 'green' , 'sustainability' and bicycles.
Portland has a general population that seems so disconnected from politics that it creates perfect environment for this type of corruption to flourish.
Everybody is too busy 'being cool' to be bothered with politics.
So why does Kitzhaber do nothing about Mcfarlane even when he has been obviously crooked in his dealings? (secret raises, cronyism, holding back public records etc)
There is an obvious answer, the two of them are pals! They are personal friends with each other! And it makes perfect sense and fits together with all the rest of Portland crony government.I found this out yesterday.
