Trimet scheduling shoots for 60% on time performance for buses

According to sources the Trimet scheduling department has a goal of 60% on time performance for buses. This is actually not news but people should be aware that Trimet bus scheduling has never actually been taken particularly seriously.

I remember years ago I had a meeting with Neil Smith who was the head of that department at that time and I told him about my frustrations on a 12 line. He looked at me and pointed straight up and said. "we know you can't make the schedule".

Of course they know, they have all the information at their fingertips. He was pointing up because he wanted me to know that it was not the scheduling department that was creating this mess, it was the executives above him that were creating the problem.

I never wrote another yellow card again about a bad schedule.

Lately there have been lots of drivers getting busted for running early. One has to wonder what happens to their bus during the full day. I would bet you that the drivers that are running early are so used to running late that when they have the opportunity to run early they take it, with gusto.

Trimet customer service says wait for transfers, Trimet scheduling says get your ass in gear.
