ARE BUS DRIVERS REQUIRED TO LEAVE THEIR DOORS OPEN

In an email response to Lane Jensen from JC Vanetta this is the skinny on the open door policy.

You had inquired about TriMet’s open door policy. It’s not always a straight yes or no answer.

As a general rule TriMet has an open door policy – however, to conserve heat/air conditioning at the end of the line an operators may keep the door shut - but operators should let intending passengers on upon request (unless the operator perceives a safety or security threat.

It is also important to note that at North Terminal we do not let customers on the bus and doors remain closed there. There may also be times during heightened security when all doors will remain closed during all layovers.

Similarly, an operator may elect to leave their doors closed anytime they perceive it is necessary for personal safety or security.

I hope that helps you understand our open door policy.
