We are back to regular service today
Tuesday, February 11, 2014 6:36 AM
We are back to regular service today. Some buses may be detoured as things are still melting. Plan extra time and check http://trimet.org/a before you go!
Buses that are running may be unable to safely serve all stops. If a stop does not appear to be serviceable (ice, etc.), go to one that is.
Do not run for trains and buses as there may still be slick spots out there.
We appreciate your patience through the storm. Mother Nature threw some extremely challenging conditions at all of us. Even though service was affected at times and treacherous conditions meant we could not travel through some areas, many of you understood that we kept as much service rolling as was humanly possible, and let us know your appreciation for the hard work and diligence of our operators, maintenance crews, field staff, customer service personnel and others. And for that we want to give you a big THANK YOU!!!!

Monday evening update
Monday, February 10, 2014 9:12 PM
Conditions continue to improve and all buses with chains have been removed ahead of schedule. Buses serving higher elevations, such as Mt. Tabor on Line 15, will be served by vehicles with drop down chains in case extra traction is needed. Check trimet.org/a for the latest service updates.
Thank You!
We thank our riders for their patience as the entire region was delayed and moving slowly in extreme weather conditions. We appreciate hearing from so many of them who have deeply appreciated the work on the TriMet team. We also thank our operators, maintenance crews, field staff, customer service personnel and others who worked throughout the extreme storm and went above and beyond in tough conditions.
Tuesday morning commute
As a precaution, TriMet will have a handful of buses chained at each of the three bus garages and may deploy them to areas that may need extra traction.
In the pre-dawn hours, crews will assess higher elevations to determine if the conditions are safe to operate on either regular route or a snow route.
Two MAX trains will operate overnight to ensure the trackway remains clear of residual sand/gravel. LIFT door to door service intends to run regular service for Tuesday, but customers should expect delays and some neighborhoods may not be able to be served.

Update for Monday evening
Monday, February 10, 2014 5:28 PM
Some good news... Conditions are improving! Here are the highlights:
BUS
Some bus lines are returning to regular routes. We are in the process of removing chains, and hope to have all of the chains removed by 9 p.m. Some bus lines are still cancelled, though: 18, 38, 43, 51, 55, 63.
MAX
Currently running regular service. We are working hard to clear the stations of snow, but it is still slippery out there. Please don't run, and use caution when crossing the street.
LIFT
Still operating life sustaining trips only for the rest of Monday. We intend to run regular service on Tuesday, but expect delays (and some neighborhoods may not be served).
A big thank you to all of you for your patience and understanding during this extreme storm. Keep checking trimet.org/a for the latest service updates.

Winter Weather update for Monday
Monday, February 10, 2014 6:35 AM
MAX, WES, Portland Streetcar and Portland Aerial Tram are running on regular schedule, but due to road conditions and the threat of more freezing rain, buses are running slowly on chains. Expect some delays and plan extra time for your commute.
The following bus lines are CANCELED: 18, 38, 43, 51, 53, 55, 61, 63
Some 21 others have some sort of detour or are on snow route. Conditions can change quickly, so check http://trimet.org/a to get the latest update on your bus line.
Crews are still working to restore elevators at Sunset Transit Center, NE 60th Ave and Clackamas Town Center TC, as well as clear Park and Ride lots of snow and ice. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
Bundle up and check http://trimet.org/a before you go, and please do not run for buses or trains. It's still very slippery out there!

Service Alert: Winter weather update
Sunday, February 09, 2014 6:01 PM
Good evening, riders! Here's an update on current bus and train service, and what to expect tomorrow:
- First off, the City of Portland is urging the public to use caution when headed outdoors. Residential streets, sidewalks and platforms may still be hazardous. Please do not run for trains and buses as surfaces are very slick.
- Buses are still running on chains so they are delayed; however, with improving road conditions some buses have returned to regular route. Among those lines are the line 9, 19, 35, 58, 75, 77, 79 and 155. We plan to run regular weekday service tomorrow, but due to forecasted freezing temperatures tonight, we are planning to keep buses chained for the morning. Chained buses can only travel up to 25mph, so expect delays tomorrow morning as well.
- LIFT service continues to operate life-sustaining trips only.
- MAX service also continues to improve. MAX Blue, Red, Green and Yellow line trains are running about every 30-45 minutes. Trains will not be on schedule, but we are working hard to keep them coming at regular intervals. Expect significant delays.
- Our Customer Service offices will open at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, two hours earlier than normal. For trip planning, call 503-238-RIDE (7433).

MAX system is operational but with very limited service
Sunday, February 09, 2014 12:06 PM
We continue to urge you to stay home. Do not travel because road and sidewalk conditions are still hazardous.
That said…
We now have about 15 MAX trains rolling. It’s enough for us to say the MAX system is operational BUT with very limited service. Three MAX lines are running.
East and West Service:
The MAX Blue and Red lines provide our main west-east service. Trains are running between the end of the line in Hillsboro and the end of the line in Gresham. Red line trains are only traveling between Beaverton Transit Center and Gateway Transit Center. This is limited service, not regularly scheduled service. Trains are coming roughly every 30 minutes. Eastbound trains at Gateway Station are serving the center platform, not the regular eastbound platform. Look around and make sure you're waiting at the right location!
Shuttle buses are serving Red Line stations between Gateway and the airport. Need to get to the airport? Take either Blue or Red line trains or regular bus service to Gateway and transfer to shuttle buses there. Plan lots of extra travel time.
The MAX Yellow Line is running its full route between PSU and Expo Center. This has limited service as well, with trains spaced about an hour apart.
The MAX Green Line is not yet in service. Look at bus Line 72 as a travel option all along the length of 82nd Ave.
Crews continue working to restore the Green Line and improve all MAX service as the day progresses and temperatures hopefully warm.
Please do not run for trains and buses as conditions are still very slick.
This is the second time in MAX history that the system has had to stop. Back in 2008, MAX trains stopped running for about 25 hours. We want to thank the rail operators who stayed with their trains, which allowed folks who were out in the conditions to stay warm. Our maintenance crews and field staff have done a heroic job to get the MAX system rolling again.
Buses are running where possible. About 20 bus lines have some sort of detour. Buses are running on chains so running slowly (no more than 25 mph). Our operators are doing an awesome job maneuvering very difficult road conditions.
We truly appreciate you for your patience and understanding in the face of these extreme conditions.

Winter Weather: Update for Sunday, February 9
Sunday, February 09, 2014 6:54 AM
OK, folks, here’s the scoop for now:
There are a few MAX trains out running, and some may be picking up passengers, but overall MAX service is not currently running. TriMet crews have been working throughout the night, and continue to work, to restore MAX service. The first few trains are an attempt at that. Even when MAX service officially resumes, it will be very limited.
If people must travel, they should use bus service, but they need to expect significant delays and go to trimet.org and check Sunday schedules to see if a bus line is running today and whether there are any alerts for the line. The National Weather Service has issued another Freezing Rain Advisory through noon, and travel is not recommended. Please stay home if at all possible and encourage friends and family to do the same.
The freezing rain moved in very fast yesterday evening and had more moisture than expected. Ice quickly overwhelmed the MAX system and trains could not move. We do not take shutting down the MAX system lightly and TriMet personnel did everything possible to try to keep it going but it was impossible.
We regret the inconvenience to those who found themselves out and about when the extreme weather hit. We dispatched buses to meet trains and transport riders. Buses also faced the challenges of the slick conditions and could not serve all sections of every route.
Buses will be running slow, on chains today and riders should expect significant delays due to the conditions. As it is Sunday, we are only running about half the routes we do on a weekday. Bus operators may not be able to safely serve all stops. Because of ice-related issues throughout the service area, we are not able to issue service alerts for individual stops. If a stop does not appear to be serviceable, riders should go to one that is.
We want to thank our rail operators, our bus operators, our maintenance crews, our field crews and everyone who has spent the night trying to provide or restore service. It has been extremely challenging for all and we appreciate their dedication! And we appreciate you for understanding that this is truly a challenging weather event for everyone.

Winter Weather Alert: MAX service is not currently running, stay home if possible
Sunday, February 09, 2014 5:11 AM
MAX service is not currently running. Crews have been working throughout the night and continue to work to restore MAX service, but we are uncertain when it will be back running.
Even when service resumes, expect it to be very limited. If you have to travel, use bus service but expect significant delays to that as well. NWS has issued another Freezing Rain Advisory through noon which means travel is not recommended. Please stay home if at all possible.

Winter weather Saturday afternoon update
Saturday, February 08, 2014 1:35 PM
And now for the afternoon update:
Our bus operators and field supervisors are seeing road conditions deteriorating. We currently have more than 15 lines that are detoured but that will likely increase as the conditions worsen. Since it is Saturday, we have about half as many routes running as we did yesterday at this time. Safety is our priority. If it’s not safe for our operators, riders or equipment, we will alter service. That may mean putting a bus line on snow route, altering a route or canceling a limited run line entirely. Be sure to check http://trimet.org/alerts before you go.
Be prepared for delays. Road crews are working hard but we are seeing some automobiles and buses getting temporarily stuck, especially in the higher elevations such as Barnes Rd. We are working with city and county crews to help keep main bus routes sanded. Buses are running on chains but cannot travel faster than 25 miles per hour. That along with some detours taking buses off route are leading to delays.
The MAX system is operating well and any issues arising have been quickly dealt with.
Another thanks to all of you for your patience and understanding of the conditions we are facing as our crews work hard to keep buses and trains running.

Winter weather update for Saturday
Saturday, February 08, 2014 6:26 AM
Good Saturday morning all!
We are once again rolling, transporting riders who need to be out and about in these weather conditions to their destinations. As it is a Saturday, we have less service than a weekday morning, but our crews have been working overnight to keep the system going today. Road conditions in some areas are too unsafe for travel so we have some 15 routes that are on snow route or have detours around troublesome spots. Check http://trimet.org/a before you head out and be sure to brush up on our essential tips for riding transit during snow and ice at http://trimet.org/winterweather.
Buses:
Buses are running on chains this morning so dress warmly for the conditions and expect delays. Buses with chains cannot go more than 25 mph. Check http://trimet.org/a before you head out.
MAX:
Our operators ran MAX trains overnight to keep the trackway and overhead wire clear. Dedicated maintenance crews have also been cleaning out switches and trains have begun running for the service day without issue.
Elevators at some MAX stations continue to see issues as snow tracked into the elevators is melting down through the floor into the mechanisms and freezing. Stomp your feet before entering elevators to avoid tracking in snow.
Thank yous!
Please give a shout out to all our bus and rail operators, maintenance crews, field supervisors, dispatch and control staff, and customer service personnel who are braving the weather conditions to keep the TriMet system rolling for our riders.
And of course, we want to extend a huge thanks to you for your patience and understanding.

Winter weather update
Friday, February 07, 2014 11:22 AM
UPDATE: All MAX lines are running but you should continue to expect some winter weather-related delays. Our buses continue to run slower on chains. While we do have some lines adjusted due to the snow and ice, the majority of our 79 bus lines are running on regular route. We are occasionally seeing a bus get stuck here and there but we have crews respond to get them back on their way.
When buses or trains are too far off their schedule or route, TransitTracker can’t accurately predict arrival times. You may instead see how many miles away the bus is, or, in some cases, a Service Alert with more information.
And remember—before you head out, be sure to check http://trimet.org/a for alerts. Thanks for your patience as we weather the storm together!

More winter weather expected today--here's what to expect
Friday, February 07, 2014 5:02 AM
Good morning! Bundle up and dress warmly today as it is still very cold out there. Before you head out, be sure to check http://trimet.org/alerts. Get essential tips for riding transit during snow and ice at http://trimet.org/winterweather
Buses:
All buses are running on chains this morning, either tire chains or drop down chains that are installed on more than 200 buses. Buses with chains will be running slower as they cannot go more than travel 25 miles per hour, and maybe slower depending on road and traffic conditions. Express buses will serve all stops along the route. Two bus lines are canceled for the morning. They are the Line 43-Taylors Ferry and Line 156-Mather Rd.
MAX:We've had MAX trains running overnight to keep the trackway and overhead wire clear. Switch issues have cleared up but as a precaution MAX Green and Yellow lines continue to run on the Blue and Red alignment along Morrison/Yamhill, and along 1st Ave. From downtown Portland, board any Blue/Red/Green/Yellow eastbound train on Yamhill or 1st, and transfer at Rose Quarter if necessary. To travel along the Transit Mall, transfer at Pioneer Courthouse Square to regular bus service.
WES:WES ran smoothly yesterday afternoon and we are expecting the same for this morning.
Ticket machines:
Ticket machines on the west side of the Willamette River are still not accepting credit/debit cards due to a technical issue. Riders should please use cash or another form of fare (which includes putting cash in a bus fare box).
