So what's our standing tally of assaults on union workers vs non-union workers?
Why would anybody want the job of a fare inspector? What do they get paid an hour? $100/hour would not be enough for me to have ever even though about applying for such a job.
I believe the supervisors have been stuck with the job of "Fare Inspection", because TM refuses to pay for the personnel to do this job. So our supes get more dirty duty for not one penny more than they got before this was thrust upon them? I wonder how Joe Rose and Alstadt will spin this?
I think one issue TriMet has with pure Fare Inspectors is that they can't preform supervisory duties when an incident happens and there's an immediate need to deal with it.
So do supervisors pick the position by seniority?
Yes and no.
Often, most of the code enforcement work is left over for the lowest seniority folks and so it is not "picked", they get stuck with it. There are a few mid-level seniority sups that actually don't mind doing code that will sign it as their work but they are the exception. So when someone says "well you signed it" its a misnomer...no, it was left for them.
