Why transit operators need good health care |
Transit Police said the incident happened at 2:15 p.m. when three women and three men got on a westbound bus in the area of Broadway and Fraser Street without paying.
They sat in the back of the bus and began openly drinking liquor when a passenger reported their disruptive behaviour.
The driver pulled the bus over in the 1000-block West Broadway, and ordered them off the bus.
Transit Police said the men complied, but the three women grabbed the driver by the hair, pulled her to the floor of the bus, and punched her.
Other passengers intervened as the suspects tried to drag the driver off the bus and then fled the scene. Police were called and the suspects were arrested several blocks away.
The driver suffered bruises, cuts and scratches, had chunks of hair pulled out and her glasses smashed.
Charged with one count of assault is Dolores Pearl Robinson, 22, of Vancouver, who police said is well known to police with 462 negative police interactions recorded. She has been released on bail into the custody of a recovery house and with numerous conditions until her next court appearance Wednesday.
Charged with one count of assault is Robinson's sister, Molly Christina Robinson, 20, of Vancouver, who police said has 267 negative police interactions recorded.
She was also released with conditions for her next court appearance on Wednesday.
Charged with one count of assault is a 17-year-old female Vancouver resident, who is also known to police. She will appear in court March 27.
