But not in a good way, only because Trimet is losing riders while the rest of the country is seeing transit ridership surge!
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- While the use of
buses, trains and subways is on the rise in many U.S. cities, ridership
in the Portland region's much touted TriMet system has fallen off.
Federal officials have previously hailed
Portland area's public transportation as visionary, easy to use and a
model for other cities. TriMet's bus and MAX routes carry a combined
312,000 riders on an average weekday.

The sad truth is- it's really easy to lose riders for a transit system; drop service, spread out arrival times, etc.
But, it's a hard slog to gain (back) the riders you alienated. They've found other ways to get where they need to go, and why should they put their faith back in the system that screwed them once?
