An altercation that began on a TriMet bus in southeast Portland led to a
disabled man getting hit with a champagne bottle, according to court
documents.
Police were called to Southeast 34th Avenue near Belmont Street at 6 p.m. Monday.
The victim, being identified only as Shane, wears leg braces and has
brain and nerve damage. He told police he was taking the bus to a
friend's house, a probable cause affidavit states.
He said a stranger on the bus kicked him in the legs a couple of
times. When that man exited the bus, Shane told police that he followed
the man and yelled at him over being kicked in the legs.
Court documents state the man, Tyler Nees, 27, went into a grocery store, but Shane did not follow him.
However, as Shane waited to catch another bus, he spotted Nees. Court
documents state Shane tried to make contact with Nees again, "as he was
still upset," but Nees turned around and hit him and pushed him to the
ground.
Shane told police that Nees then kicked him, "too many times to count."
