A man was arrested early Monday after he allegedly attacked an MTA bus driver in Westchester before passengers were able to stop him, transit officials said.
Authorities were called to Aviation Boulevard and 111th Street, near Los Angeles International Airport, at 2:18 a.m., Metro spokesman Rick Jager said. There, witnesses told airport police the man had also tried to grab the wheel of the bus before passengers pulled him away.
The driver was able to stop the bus as the passengers held the suspect back, Jager said, but as the driver braked, the suspect and some of the passengers hit the windshield. One passenger was taken to an area hospital for "minor to moderate" lacerations; the suspect also was taken to the hospital after complaining of leg and ankle pain.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on suspicion of attempted carjacking, Jager said.
About a dozen people were on the bus at the time, Jager said. It wasn't clear what prompted the attack, he added.
