A 27-year-old man is accused of kicking a disabled man while riding a TriMet bus Monday night in Southeast Portland.
The victim wears leg braces and told Portland police
he was riding the bus to a friend's house for dinner in the area of
Southeast 60th Avenue and Belmont Street, when another man on the bus
kicked him in the legs a couple of times, according to Multnomah County
Deputy District Attorney Joel Peterson.
The assailant was later picked out of a photo throwdown and identified as Tyler Wayne Nees, according to police and prosecutors.
The victim, identified as Shane Arnold, followed his alleged attacker
off the bus and yelled at him. Nees walked into a grocery store, but
came out later and Arnold tried to confront him near Southeast 34th
Avenue and Belmont Street.
Arnold told police that Nees turned, struck him and pushed him to the
ground and kicked him repeatedly, according to a probable cause
affidavit filed in court Tuesday. Nees also removed a bottle from his
backpack and swung it at Arnold's head, grazing his right eyebrow, the
affidavit said.
Nees was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center about 7:25 p.m. Monday. He was arraigned in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Tuesday on a second-degree assault allegation.
